Guidelines for Applicants
  • Applications are accepted only for open positions.
  • For some positions, the City accepts job interest cards. From the class specifications page, select the position you're interested in and subscribe to receive notifications when a position opens. 
  • To be considered for a job you must submit an online application by the closing date. Resumes are not accepted in lieu of the online application.
  • Qualified veterans may claim employment preference points by submitting the required documentation noted in each job posting. See ORS408.230 for more information.
Tips for Applicants
Pre-application
  • Read the job posting thoroughly.
  • Compare your skills, experience, licenses and certifications with the expected qualifications of the position.
  • Inventory the required documents to be included with your application.
  • Tailor your resume and cover letter to the position you’re applying for.
Application
  • Complete all required fields in the application.
  • Perform a spell check.
  • If you have skills, education or certifications applicable to the position, list them (foreign language, computer programs, etc.).
  • Give special attention to supplemental questions, providing as much insight into your skills and experience as possible.
  • Review all required attachments prior to submitting your application.
Post-application
  • Check your email (including spam filters) and voicemail. These are the primary means of communication used by Human Resources. The time it takes to receive feedback varies.
Veterans Preference

Veterans may be eligible for preference during each step of the recruiting process.

Eligibility

In accordance with Oregon law, veterans may be eligible:

  • Who pass an initial application screening.
  • Who meet minimum qualifications.
  • Who meets any special qualifications for the position.

An eligible candidate may receive either five points as a qualified veteran (non-disabled) or 10 points as a qualified veteran with disability (not both).

If a competitive step of the City’s selection process is not scored, the City will apply preference based on another method for all qualifying veteran candidates, in accordance with state law.

Required documentation

To demonstrate that you qualify as a veteran candidate and request preference, please submit:

  1. A copy of your DD214/DD215, or other acceptable form documenting veteran status (indicating character of service as honorable). (5 points)
  2. A copy of your DD214/DD215 form, or other acceptable form documenting veteran status and your letter stating veterans connected disability from the Department of Veterans Affairs. (10 points)

Choose a delivery method

  1. Attach the required documentation to your online application.
  2. Send the required documentation via email to the email listed on the job announcement.
  3. Mail the required documentation to the address listed.

The City must receive your documentation by the recruitment closing date.
